Description
This is a picture of the Beamsville Cenotaph that was erected in Beamsville following World War I to honour the young men who had fought in that war and did not return home to their loved ones. Beamsville Women's Institute donated the 2 white cement urns in 1921 and has continued to plant them every spring. When the Town added 2 large black urns they were notifued about the history of the smaller ones so that they still remain in use. The WI plants all four urns now and looks after watering them all summer.

Each April there is a Town clean up campaign and at that time the WI looks after picking up any debris in the area of the Cenotaph also as a small community project.

The Cenotaph located in Beamsville was erected following World War I to honour the young men who had fought in that war and did not return home to their loved ones. In 1921 Beamsville Women's Institute donated two cement urns to honour these soldiers. The Branch has continued to look after the planting and watering of the urns since that time. When the Town added two large black urns to the grounds the history of the cement ones was made known to them so that they continue to remain in place. The Branch now plants all four of them.

Over the years the names of soldiers who perished in World War II, the Korean Conflict and in Afghanistan have been added to the monument. We continue to have a poppy wreath or cross placed during each Remembrance Day ceremony.
