- Description
- This embroidered cloth was created by the Grantham WI around 1930. It is made of cotton. Perhaps this is a quilt top that never became a quilt or perhaps it is a tablecloth.
Besides the red embroidery in the centre of each block, there are many names in black. The names are old Grantham names such as Seacord/Secord, Fleming, Parnell, Wood, Jones, Arbuthnot, Buchanan, McNamara, Stewart, Read/Reed, Earle, Anderson, Lees, Wilson, Paxton, Malton, Putten, Elvey, Gare, Shelton, Christie, Dalton, Livingston, Smith and many more.
The embroidered cloth was stored in the home of Grantham WI member, Eugenie "Emma" McFadyen. Her daughter is donating the cloth to the St. Catharines Museum. - Notes
