Punkinhead’s Rampage Has Ended! Addie’s Adventurers Save the Day.

Addie’s intrepid adventurers were at it again. On a recent trip to visit other WI branches throughout the universe, we were threatened by a humongous creature from the infamous orange planet, nicknamed “Planet Pumpkin.” Inhabited by large pumpkin heads that blended into their surroundings, they were fairly benevolent and generally welcomed visitors.

But this pumpkin head was extra huge and had left its planet to wander the universe and create havoc. Space ships were always on the look-out as this pumpkin creature, now dubbed Punkinhead, had a tendency to hide behind moons or in meteor showers to jump out and surprise the ship. Its evil smile and menacing eyes were lit up by the molten rock in its inner core. It even had a pet spider living in its left ear that would quickly try to spin a web over the space ship. Luckily, no ships had been captured so far.

We decided we must try to do something but how to get close to Punkinhead to talk? Donning our magical hats and black cloaks, we jumped on a spiral galaxy and headed its way. We made sure we were waving our WI banners as we approached. We were dwarfed beside it!

Thankfully, our WI logo is well known in the universe and Punkinhead paused as it headed towards us. It looked confused as it thought it was seeing double – no quadruple. (We all looked the same except for the patch on our face.)

It was touch and go for a while. Once we ironed out how to communicate, we had the answer. Punkinhead was having stomach pains! All that fiery molten rock in its belly made it very grouchy. Who knew! We suggested some remedies and in a few days Punkinhead was feeling much better. There was now only a soft glow from its eyes and smile.

We introduced it to kinder, gentler ways. Punkinhead became a benevolent creature; helping other travellers safely go about their tasks in our solar system and to the galaxies beyond. Its pet spider found other uses for its web skills and is now using a loom to weave its silken threads to make items for the poor and needy. And we are very pleased to report that there is now a WI Branch on Planet Pumpkin. Their first meeting was on October 31st this year.

[This activity has been quite a challenge. Two of us got sick; one with COVID and the other with a cold. We ended up not needing to go to a pumpkin patch as we reused a pumpkin that was given to our church for a Thanksgiving decoration. It was the perfect one! With our sickness and difficulty getting together, we decided one pumpkin was enough. Gutting the beast was quite the messy affair as it did not want to let it go. Recycling is continuing as the seeds were put out for the various wildlife to enjoy. As before, this is a photograph with no software manipulation.]
