- Showdown in the hamlet of Yarmouth Gulch, population 37+ 1
Photo L to R: Little Bo Peep (Joan Mansell), Miss Addie (Joanne Erickson), on the porch One Eyed Jack (Char Wilcox), Sheriff Wilma Earp (Joan Jackaman). Picture taken at Dan Patterson Conservation Park, Elgin County
Little Bo Peep is upset and is guarding her Pumpkin Clock, the only timepiece in town. The villain, One Eyed Jack, has come to town to steal the clock and Little Bo Peep is terrified. The sheriff, Wilma Earp, is trying to defeat Jack in a gunfight showdown at 12:15 pm.
Just then, a stranger runs up to the main street and puts up her hand to stop the fight. Miss Addie has come to town, carrying one of her famous apple pies, to prevent bloodshed and save the clock.
One Eyed Jack slowly comes out of the shadows and tells Miss Addie his story while enjoying the homemade pie, the first he has ever tasted. He talks about the fire that left him badly scarred and that he is afraid to come into town because people make fun of him. He didn’t want to hurt anyone and didn’t want to destroy the pumpkin clock. He only wanted some seeds so he could start a farming business growing pumpkins.
This story will be told over and over for the next 125 years. Yarmouth Gulch will forever be the most peaceful place in Elgontario. - Notes
