- Description
- October, harvest. The end of summer, the season of gathering in and gathering together. Just as Earth celebrates her bounty with riotous colour, so we give thanks for our blessings of family and friends.
This month’s clue sends us on an adventure. Our Sisters meet at a local market to buy our pumpkins, only to learn that the only ones left are still in the field. Undaunted, two of us trudge through the mud to find likely orange gourds to carve, pleased that we had the foresight to wear boots. The squash beetles have invaded the acreage; we discard many in pursuit of our prizes.
Selection accomplished, we reconvene at my house. The pumpkins are washed and dried and our individual choices made. Our entire Institute is participating, with plenty of laughter and frustration ensuing. Then the costumes, which reflect the season, are brought out and more fun attends the group. Two sets of photos are taken; one for the contest and another of all the participants for posterity.
We are Janice Gannon (black cat), Salina Ste Croix (harvest queen, complete with ladle sceptre), Donna Russett (the good witch) and Judy Kupecz (Monarch butterfly). - Notes
