- This year of Wish Challenges to mark our 125th anniversary has had us look at ourselves in creative ways and the contributions of our organization. Once again Wish 4 challenges us to randomly select someone and pay for their drink to start a conversation abut Women’s Institute. This is another step out of our comfort zone.
Recently when buying a tree at a local nursery to mark the 125th Anniversary of F.W.I.O., the owner and I got taking about Walton W.I.. We can take these opportunities to share our work in the community and our effort in tree planting to improve the environment.
Our W.Eyes group drove to Seaforth Tim Horton’s for wish #4 for a coffee break stop. We decided to buy a gift card as our pay it forward option. A group of women and their husbands were together. They were area people so we introduced ourselves as members of the Walton Women’s Institute and explained our challenge for the 125th Celebration for Women’s Institute. When we asked what they knew about Women’s Institute they responded they knew women who were members but Seaforth Institute had disbanded many years ago. We commented that we support community projects and environmental concerns. One husband joked we didn’t include men. We chatted about recent community events as well. After getting their permission for a photo, one husband took the photo of the group. Each of the women were given an Institute bookmark. We presented them with the gift card which will cover their next weekly coffee for their chat.
