The “Golden Girls” team met at the Olde Bakery in the neighbouring town of Ingersoll for lunch. During our lunch and visit we noticed two ladies deciding where to sit. We quickly invited them to join us and offered to treat them to dessert and tea. We introduced ourselves and explained our WI mission. In the course of the delightful conversation we discovered they knew very little about Women’s Institute but were interested to learn about our activities and accomplishments, including our new WI barn quilt block for the 125 Anniversary. We learned that many years ago one of our guests was a “hockey mom” along with one of our team members. Our other guest was very outgoing and told us her late grandmother had been an active WI member many years ago. When we learned her name, one of our team members recognized that name, as she had been one of her 4-H leaders in the late 1950s. Another interesting thing we learned about her was that she has written a book about her many life experiences. She offered to share a copy so all of our team could read it.
They happily accepted our bookmarks and we had our accommodating waitress take a photo of our WI team.
Those pictured in our photo are Lynn Payne (guest) Evelyn Arthur, Alexis Walsh (guest) Louise McLennan, Liz Harrison, & Carol Miller.
The Golden Girls agreed that this was a most enjoyable and productive/interesting lunch. - Notes
