The Bookmark Caper

September 1st, The Unflappable Four needed to focus on accomplishing the task in Clue #4 .
We selected a popular coffee spot in the village of Sydenham. At The Country Café, we were certain to find someone who would love to have a coffee on us.
As we waited in line, along came a lady, who looked about our age. We turned around towards her and eagerly explained that the four of us were Women’s Institute Members and we’d love to buy her a coffee and have her join us for a chat. She smiled, and said that was a lovely gesture. She would have a coffee with milk.
We were bursting with information about our WI Branch. She sensed our enthusiasm and she began asking us questions. She even remembered attending our Fashion Through the Decades Show, in aid of New Leaf Link (a local organization supporting young adults with learning disabilities.)
Fortunately for us, the WI treasurer is an unflappable team member. She enlightened our guest to our other charitable contributions. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, our Harrowsmith Branch was looking ahead and considering funding to send a child in-need to summer camp.
Time passed quickly, and our guest had to run but we asked another patron to take a photo of the Unflappable Four with our acquaintance. Here we are presenting a WI Bookmark.
Maybe our new acquaintance will join us, as a guest or a member. However, it was a definite afternoon pleasure – a lovely way to start our September.
