Description

3rd Rock from the Sun

Excitement is in the air! We have journeyed from our home on Mars to attend the 2053 Associated Country Women of the Universe (ACWU) Conference in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on Earth and are about to land. We are very pleased that we are taking our friends from Mars, that original ‘Meet and Greet’ committee from 20 years ago, to this Interstellar Conference. They are very much looking forward to meeting members from the variety of planets attending.

The trip has been exciting and we have seen lots of wonderful things. First we picked up members from other planets to save on fuel - just like carpooling in the olden days. With a full ship, we shortly thereafter flew though a meteor shower and caught a glimpse of the once-in-a-millennium “WI-5H Stellar Cluster” as we headed towards Earth.

Then someone suggested dropping by the moon to pick up their famous gourmet pizza from the deli. It was delicious with all that green cheese on top. Our Martian friend could not resist adding some of her avocado oil to her slice.

Approaching Earth, we had a stupendous view of the Andromeda Nebula in the far distance. We also had the privilege to see the newest model of a space ship. This one looks like a pyramid on its side. What will they think of next? Everything old is indeed new again.

As we gather up our luggage for landing, we remember the gifts we brought. One of the ACWU Conference activities is to hide a rock for someone special to find. What fun! Christine had discovered some Martian rocks that glowed in the dark but, yet, were not radioactive. She is hiding her speckled blue rock for her granddaughter and cannot wait to visit her in Ottawa. Julia is hiding two rocks (rocket ship and Earth) in a bush near Calabogie for some children to find. Won’t they be surprised! Irene’s rock (nebula) is being hidden in a vegetable bed of a fellow WI member in appreciation of her hard work over the last few years. Gwen is hiding her rock, which looks like a lunar eclipse, for her husband to find. This will be a reminder of the romantic wedding anniversary they had during COVID, when they snuggled on a lounge chair to watch the night sky and its shooting stars.

[Creating our masterpieces was lots of fun. First to find the rocks we wanted to paint. Then figure out what to paint on them using our ‘galaxy – 3rd rock from the sun’ theme. No one was allowed to paint a ‘black hole.’ Then our artistic member provided the paints and guidance on what to do. Two of us ended up painting two rocks, especially after Gwen found a rock that looked like a slice of pie or pizza. We then displayed the results and created a story. As before, this is a photograph with no software manipulation.]
