- Description
- What makes a person special? Is it their kind heart? The way they pitch in to help others, even those citizens they have never met? How their presence lights up a room and makes everyone smile?
Being special is all of the above.
There are many women who fit this description, a multitude of ladies who bake cakes, wash dishes, raise funds for good causes and never ask for recognition of their deeds. Yet, without these uncelebrated supporters of our society, how many projects would never be accomplished?
Unanimously, our team chose, as the special people to be honoured in this clue, the senior Women’s Institute members who are no longer active, but sorely missed by us. Since Covid, they no longer join us and their health has declined. Verna Clancy, Jean Pollock and Margaret Thompson were each quietly gifted painted stones to bring smiles to their faces.
Our non-WI team member, Salina Ste Croix, was unable to attend our meeting/paint party as she found herself unexpectedly having to work. She missed the fun that Janice Gannon, Donna Russett and Judy Kupecz (as well as other branch members) had painting stones with bright colours on newspaper spread on the table. While we drank coffee or tea and inhaled upside-down-cake, we chose words and decorations that symbolize family, friendship and Women’s Institute. - Notes
