"Quilt Blocks of Friendship, Family and Community"

We chose to create quilt blocks out of Lego showing what WI means to us. Put together the blocks show how we come together as family, friends and community.

The top left the block our team member wanted to share her connection with friends and the fun she has as a WI member.

In days gone by women would get together as family and friends and chat around a quilt they were making. Many stories were shared and lessons learned during that time. One of our members remembers the log cabin quilts her grandma used to make. So she created the block on the top right with those precious family members in her mind.

In the bottom left the block was created to show the connection between 4-H and Women's Institute. The white symbolizes the 4-H clover. The blue and yellow WI colours surrounding the clover show the support provided to 4-H as an organization over the years.

The barn and silo on the bottom left are all about the rural connection that WI has. We are taken back to our rural roots where WI started but also remain connected currently. As WI continues toward the future we must also remember our roots. Our knowledge of agriculture, food and life skills must continue to be shared with generations to come.

As individuals we each have our own sense of creativity and knowledge. In a quilt even when each block is the same pattern and fabric it is still unique and beautiful as the person making it. Once a quilt is all put together its sense of purpose is much bigger. WI is very much the same. Each member brings creativity, kindness and uniqueness. Together we are friends, family and community.
