Description
"Just as every rose bud has in it a rose “ – the dream of accessible transportation in Prince Edward County did finally bloom into a reality. In 1989 Prince Edward District W.I. formed a committee to study the lack of accessible transport in our county. Over a period of many years this committee worked with organizations who provided services for people with handicaps, held meetings with Ministry of Transportation, with local hospital administrators, community groups, and lived through changes in government policies. By 2004 provincial government funding was available from a “Dedicated Gas Tax Fund for Public Transportation Program, Quinte Access a local successful transportation provider was available, & Prince Edward County Council was on board. After eighteen years of hard work this specialized transportation bus began running through our county. Thus began this much needed service which continues to bring to Prince Edward County a daily specialized transportation for persons with disabilities & seniors. This photo shows four lego novices having a very fun, interesting adventure creating this accessible bus.
