- Title of our Lego creation: W.I. Strong
Our creation represents the beginning of the Women’s Institute Organization, February 19 1897, with the Motto – For Home and Country. Adelaide Hoodless, a mother educating Women, in collaboration with the Farmer’s Institute, headed by Erland Lee, was the beginning of our Organization.
Adelaide was speaking about teaching Domestic Science so women of that time would have Health knowledge in the care of their children. Adelaide had a child die due to unsafe milk. Adelaide was a strong example of women working to improve Health. In the 125 years, strong membership made improvements in Safety, Education, and the Environment. Together working with letter writing, and governments seeing the need for change, we have achieved many things like; wrapped bread, quality labels on clothing, law mandatory for traffic to stop when school bus is stopped, Community Halls, white lines in the centre of roads, Education Scholarships, recycling initiatives and much more. Our 125th Anniversary Project is Tree Planting. The arms of the house show the strength of these achievements of W.I. Strong, making improvements for ALL in our Community, our response to the For Home and Country Motto.
The colours of Royal Blue and Gold were chosen since the first Convention was in Guelph, the Royal City, and these were their colours. We have used these Women’s Institute colours to build our house. Our W.I. mat at the front of the house welcomes you.
