- Quilting Blocks: Binding Us Together
Quilting is a traditional art form with a purpose. We, the Unflappable Four, chose to build a quilt (“Blocks that Bind”) to demonstrate what an essential focus WI has for us. Together we discussed, researched quilt patterns and gathered our LEGO blocks. We worked in harmony having great fun piecing our LEGO quilt, without threading our needles, or hauling out the sewing machine. As each block in our LEGO quilt progressed, we admired our finesse, determination and pleasure as we worked together.
Each “Unflappable Four” member likened this project to other WI initiatives where our branch planned, executed and brought forth successful finished projects. These involved working together, to bring cheer to others, to improve members’ skills, and to bring a sense of accomplishment from the day’s endeavour.
If only our LEGO quilt was as cuddly as a real one. We discussed who would welcome the fruits of our labour, a lonely person wanting comfort, a family in need, a patient in recovery, a women’s shelter, or a new arrival to Canada?
Much like our LEGO quilt, the individual contributions of WI members when sewn together makes an impressive display and a profound impact for Home and Country.
