WI – A Cornucopia of Opportunities!
After discussing what WI means to us, our varied opinions made us conclude that WI encompasses all of our ideas and is really a cornucopia or ‘horn of plenty’.
Through meetings and workshops WI members gain information and knowledge on a wide variety of topics and we gain new skills. Education and tips on staying healthy are always at the forefront. This may be through preparing and eating nutritious meals, staying active or working towards a healthy environment.
WI provides the opportunity to take action in our communities. Sometimes this is done by sponsoring information sessions or by contributing to food banks and shelters. We try to stay informed about the latest bylaws and legislations and advocate action and improvements when deemed necessary.
WI has helped us grow by taking part in programs, making formal presentations and gradually moving forward to roles of leadership.
Most importantly, WI means friendship. Our circle of friends increases greatly by being a WI member and taking the opportunities to accept invitations, work together on committees and attend conferences. Loneliness has been a casualty of the many COVID lockdowns but through Zoom meetings, phone calls and occasional in-person meetings following strict protocol, WI members have been able to keep connected and feel less isolation.
Therefore to complete our WISH challenge we worked together to construct our cornucopia. Flowing out in front is our circle of friends representing the friendships gained. A book denotes our emphasis on education. A red cross symbolizes the many health programs while the fruit and vegetables promote healthy food choices and the progress toward healthy living. The trees and flowers stress the importance of a healthy environment. An activist signifies the opportunities WI members take to advocate for positive change.
Through this assignment we took the opportunity to work together, solve problems and learn new skills and we had lots of fun. That’s really what WI means to us!
