HELPING HANDS

In working on this project we were pondering the significance/meaning of our motto FOR HOME AND COUNTRY. As we examined what Braemar W.I. has accomplished recently and historically too, we decided that the use of “Helping Hands’ very well represented the actions, projects and commitments of our institute to home and country. Our ‘helping hands’ have accomplished much as shown below.

Braemar Women’s Institute members are

Ready to lend a helping hand

At any time there is a need.

Each member has a role to play. Some

May educate or teach a new skill. They have helped

At several events. e.g. Served food at ploughing matches, donated money to various causes such as Embro and Tavistock Fall Fairs. They have participated in workshops sewing for preemies at the London Children’s Hospital , making

Receiving blankets for the Stratford Hospital and sewing medical dolls for children facing surgery.

We maintain an annual TWEEDSMUIR History Book.

Often we send cards to shut ins and to folks experiencing medical problems. Our president on our behalf

Makes sets of BOOKS, BLANKETS and BEARS for the local Hickson Fire Department to present as comforting gifts to children suffering from tragic experiences. Other

Events include sponsoring annual coffee breaks to raise money for the local Alzheimer’s Society and participating in our district fundraisers.

Needless to say, along with that, we have

Sewn fidget aprons for Alzheimer’s patients.

Ingamo Homes for disadvantaged women and children are recipients of our gifts of toiletries,

Non perishable items for their

Second stage housing in Woodstock.

The tornado in 1979 inspired members to rally, delivering sandwiches and desserts to farm families

In need and to workers on

The ground helping with the clean up for families affected.

Underlying all of these activities is

The best group of kindly friends a person could

Ever have, a thoughtful, willing group of
HELPING HANDS !
