Since its inception in 1929, the Associated Country Women of the World has supported rural women through group projects for water and sanitation, health education, nutrition and training. More than 1,000 community-based women-led projects have been funded since 1977. To mark the 40th anniversary, the Projects Committee has launched the Anniversary Appeal to raise 150,000 pounds sterling to support the next projects. Canada Area is supporting three ACWW projects this triennium. A $2,000 pledge was made in 2016 for Project #1005, a solar pump for South Africa. In June 2017, a $2,000 pledge was made to support Project #1015 "Art Therapy in Romania" Women's Association in Sibiu. Art therapy activities teach women and children how to create saleable items such as greeting cards and photo frames using various materials and techniques. A pledge of $6,000 was made to support Project #1022 "Fertilize Your Future" in Guatemala. This project promotes vocational training for forty-five women living around the municipal dump of Guatemala City. After being interviewed, these women will be registered in suitable training such as hair dressing, catering, pastry making or IT. The following resolutions were carried at the 28th Triennial Conference: the New Constitution, food sovereignty, fructose, sustainable energy, shale gas, protecting the supply of water, vaccination against eradicable diseases, individual membership for Board and committee candidates, subscriptions and civil society and gender. Recommendations that were carried included illegal immigrant border children and refugees. Societies are mandated to urge local, provincial and national government bodies to act on these resolutions and recommendations.
