Meet the Members…Marion Thompson Continued from page 14... and sewing pajamas for the war effort; taking the government sponsored Home Economics courses and being a leader and member of the 4-H club. Not only has WI benefited, but Marion has volunteered all of her life and has received awards and recognition from the United Church Women, the United Church of Canada, the Peterborough Presbyterian UCW, the Canadian Cancer Society, the County of Peterborough, the Monaghan Township and the Otonabee-South Monaghan Township Library. Marion loves to play cards, knit, quilt and still maintains her own home. She has knit over 60 afghans since 1982 (the year she started keeping track). Marion gives the afghans as wedding and special occasion gifts and has also donated them to different charities and events. Still being involved at our meetings, she recently taught us how to make the best tea biscuits (from scratch of course) in the County. Marion has done so much with and for the WI and her community and she still remains active, humble and kind. She is such a pleasure to be with. By Rita Saler Editor's Note: Sadly, shortly before our publication went to print, we learned that Marion Thompson passed away. She was active right until the end, helping her Branch with the Books, Blankets and Bears project, tying ribbons and helping with the packaging. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
