Star of the North WI The Star of the North WI (Sudbury District, North Central Area), located in Monetville, Municipality of the French River, replaced the Fall Fair with an annual Harvest Dinner and recently hosted their 16th dinner with upwards of 160 people in attendance. It is a fundraiser with a silent auction, with proceeds going towards a bursary fund. It is also an opportunity to honour and recognize a community member for their exceptional volunteer service. This year, Heather Fryer, a 42-year WI Member received the award. Check out her story in FWIO's "Ordinary to Extraordinary" book on page 110. The theme for this year's dinner was Canada's 150th and DC Cowboy e nte r t a in e d with country music. Southline Brant WI Southline Brant WI (Bruce County District, Grey-Bruce Area) took a "Trip Back in Time" - right in their own community! As part of a ROSE Session, Members visited the Flack Family Homestead, located west of Walkerton. The three level stone building was built on the side of a hill by John and Geneva Flack. The homestead was last occupied in 1952 but now, more than half a century later, it has been fully restored and brought back to its original magnificence and era by Tony and Elaine Lang, who is the great-great-granddaughter of John and Geneva. Members were treated to a tour of the h o m e s t e a d , which boasts many special artifacts and even a working windmill. Pictured: Members of Southline Brant WI at the Flack Family Homestead. New Dundee WI The annual Christmas meeting of the New Dundee WI (Waterloo District, Guelph Area) was held December 19, 2017 at the Community Centre. The evening's events, organized by the Citizen and Legislation Committee, began with punch and a social time followed by a wonderful turkey dinner. The program, An Old-Fashioned Christmas Concert, was introduced by "Principal" (Judy) Rivers. Various recitations, song and dance numbers were presented by the excited, mostly well-behaved "pupils" Eleanor Berry, Kate Cressman, Ruth Cressman, Marg Doerfling, Pam Gillespie, Susanne Gillow, Martha Hofstetter, Carol Sararus and Linda Sims. "Superintendent" (Kathryn) Wall led the audience in the singing of Christmas Carols ending with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Pictured (L-R) seated: Kathryn Wall, Judy Rivers and Ruth Cressman.
