Thanks to the generous donations of WI Members across Ontario, on June 15, 2018, FWIO was pleased to present a cheque for $4,089.50 to the G. Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab at the University of Guelph. Research done through the lab will lead to better diagnostics and treatment for Canadians. The University was kind enough to arrange a presentation and tour of their research lab, which highlighted the important work that is being done. Lyme Disease has become a growing health concern in Canada. Unfortunately, the disease is difficult to diagnose in this country, with more education, proper screening and funding desperately needed to ensure that people do not have to suffer unnecessarily with a misdiagnosis. When left undetected, the damage can be irreversible and potentially life- threatening. In July and August, FWIO raised an additional $787.50 for Lyme Disease through donations and the sale of Lyme Disease Bags (available for $5.00 each). We are happy to forward any future donations to the University of Guelph on your behalf, or you may do so directly. FWIO encourages Members to continue to raise awareness in your communities by hosting ROSE Sessions on Lyme Disease. Also, if you have been affected by the disease, share your story with professionals so that you have a voice in the research process.
