Description
Our group, the Dipsy Doodler's has chosen as it's project our involvement with Plan International Canada (headquarters in Toronto Ontario).

Our Women's Institute joined Plan International Canada on February 4th 1976. From 1976 to present we have donated money to this organization . We sponsor one child at a time and with our annual donation this child has access to the basic necessities like water, healthcare, food and education so they have a chance to a bigger and better future.

The foster children that we have sponsored have been from Indonesia, Burkina Faso (this is a landlocked country in West Africa), the Philippines, El Salvador, Columbia, Nepal and currently Bangladesh.

Our group does fundraising to be able to sponsor these children. Our main fundraisers are firstly our annual St. Patrick's Tea and Bake Sale which is held in March at one of our local churches. Our member's wear something green and adorn our heads with beautiful green feathered fascinators, some of these are handmade by members. St. Patrick's center pieces are made for each table, which are also made by some of our craft gifted members. Tickets are sold for numerous door prizes and we participate in a few quiz games. Music is provided by a local group of talented musicians.

Our second main fundraiser is at our local fair. We have a Tea Room set up for one day displaying our Women's Institute banner and we serve coffee, tea and juice for the children. Delicious home made squares and cookies are also served. This is a welcome spot to sit down and visit with friends.

These two fundraisers bring in enough money so we can continue to sponsor our foster child. Plan International Canada keeps us updated each year with pictures of our foster child and how this child is progressing. We feel this is a very worthwhile and rewarding project.
