Description
The following is taken from W.I. Minutes found in a Minute Book in the Tweedsmuir History Collection.
In the Minutes: September 21, 1988. "Our President reported on the recycling meeting at the Grey Township Municipal Office. Another member reported on the Recycling meeting at the Ethel Hall. It was suggested we hold a Public Meeting separate from the Women’s Institute Meeting to help educate people in the community about recycling. A committee was struck to look after the meeting."
We worked with Grey Township on the recycling project and delivered Blue Boxes in our area and held a Community Information Night promoting the implementation of Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling.
In the Minutes: November 23, 1989. "During Recycling Week our President was invited to the Grey Township Council Meeting and received a Citation of Merit Certificate on behalf of our members cooperating with this project."
The program continues to this day, although the original Blue Box has been replaced by a Recycling Wheelie Bin. It remains an important project in our area and in Canada.
