Description
This is photo includes the Tec We Gwill WI Hall in Newton Robinson in the background. We researched the history of property in Our local history book “Governor Simcoe Slept Here” included in this photo.
In 1852 the tailor shop stood where the present hall is now. Annie Spillett was one of the three girls that worked at this shop. Ann, left in the photo, represents Annie with her fabric and tape measure. Next, the members of the Orange Lodge, built a frame lodge hall in 1857, and relocated this to its present location in 1936. Sara with her top hat and jacket, in the photo represents an Orangeman member. The Tec We Gwill WI branch was founded in 1947. The Hall was eventually turned over to the Tec We Gwill Women`s Institute in 1986. Denise, holding the WI flag and the history book in the photo represents a WI Member. While The WI still holds their meeting and activities in this hall, it is now owned and maintained by the Town of Bradford. Andrea in the photo represents a town employee wearing a jacket with the Town of Bradford Crest.

The Nortorious Newtowners' Treasure

Newton Robinson`s corner, northwest side,

Is where we found our treasure, with quadruple pride.

The dramatic history of that property,

Is rich with stories, as you will see.

In this photo, we dress the role

Of the people’s ancient soul.

It was a dwelling established in 1852,

From there a successful tailor shop grew.

In 1936, the Orangemen,

Relocated their meetings again.

They built the lodge that none could top.

The present hall, where many stop.

Next in the hall's historical route

It became Tec We Gwill Women’s Institute.

Now with the town of Bradford involved

Once again the hall has evolved.
