The men were called to work by a bell installed in a tower at the factory in August 1888. In 1910 the brothers bought adjacent properties, moved three houses, and extended the main factory west from Main Street. The present factory now has 130,000 square feet of floor space. The company had only started in business, when they saw that trees, the source of their raw material, would have to be conserved. In 1899 they purchased 300 acres on Con. 6 of Sullivan Township, still known as Kinghurst. The same year a run of' 2000 logs was brought down the river from Sullivan township - - a two weeks journey. Logs were also brought by train from Tara. In 1931, they f. Instituted a program of tree planting, and in 1958 - twenty seven years later - a desk was made from four of the first pine trees planted.
