[ _ High Street runs from King Street at the C.N.R. station north to the river, and may have 1 (City . gotten Its name from the fact that the C.N.R. station might be one of' the highest points In town. Second Concession Street ls a continuation within the twon of the 2nd concession of' Elderslie. McGaw Street was named after a wr. McGaw, a miller employed In the Thomas Elliot mill. Mill Street was one of' the original Industrial streets of' the town, on which were located _' the Elliot grist and saw mills, the Bremner foundry, Grooch and Ralston felt factory, cooper : shop, cabinet factory, and the original site of' the Krug Furniture Co. j The McLaggan subdivision was named after John McLaggan, who had a survey made of' the north 1 section of town and subdivided his farm Into building lots. Catherine Street was named after the wife of' John McLaggan. Mary Street was named after Nary Elliot, wife of John H. Elliot. Davis Street got Its name from T.M. Davis, an early settler who was prominent In the life j of' the community. . j Dobie Street honors the Dobie family, who developed the easterly part of the town. : Adolph Street took the name of the Adolph family, one of' whom was a partner with Wm. McDonald F in publishing the Chesley Enterprise and later started the Chesley Free Press which he operated E for about five years. Gillies Street got Its name from R.J. Gillies, a member of' the first village council In l 1880. This name is also perpetrated In the former community of Gillies Hill In Blderslie Township. '; Danard Street was named after the first minister of the Methodist church, now St. John's i United church, with both the church and parsonage being on this street. i Bell Road was named in honor of the Wm. D. Bell family, Mr. Bell's son, Major James Bell i donated part of the Bell property to the town as park land, including the bowling green and i p;? the oreseent-shapedarea which runs through the park from Mill to Adolph Street. He also gave 2 ()5,000 toward developing the community park. , Adam Street was named after Adam Dobie.
