Provided hot lunches in most rural schools. . 3. Bus trips were enjoyed to Guelph, Thousand Islands and other places. 4. Mending was done at hospitals and Bonnechere Manor. . 5. Singing lessons in rural schools were funded by W.1.'s. 6. All sorts of improvements to rural cemeteries were undertaken and clean--up days as well. . . 7. Two old--tyme orchestras were formed with all musicians being W.1. members ' > ' (White Lake and Goshen): Their music was enjoyed at various functions. 8. Sponsored 4--H Clubs. The largest number of clubs being in 1943. - 9. Sponsored many, many short courses. In 1955 eight short courses were offered. 10. _ Kept up Tweedsmuir Histories of the District and our communities. ' 11. _ In 1953 when Renfrew's Fair was 100 years old, twelve W.1. Branches entered the antiques called for in that year's display. A 1712 violin was tried out by Mayor Whitton to the amusement of all. . t 12. _ Health aides supplied to Renfrew Victoria Hospital by W.1.'s of Renfrew South included a refrigerator to store blood donations, an oxygen tent, a suction machine, an incubator, a humidicrib, several reclining chairs, a resuscitator;, intravenous stand as well as donations of money each year and the continuing maintenance of the W.1.'s own ward in the Hospital starting as early as 1924. | Arnprior and District Hospital opened in 1945 and the Barry's Bay Memorial Hospital opened in 1960.
