This school was in use only a few years as schools were being consolidated. For a few years pupils of Lochwinnoch and Dewars were bussed to school, grades one to four going to Lochwinnoch and five to eight to Dewars. , When, in 1967 the McNab Township consolidated school was built near Glasgow, all the country schools were closed. Dewar's school was then purchased by J.M. (Mac) MacMillan, remodelled and became a very comfortable home. While inhabited by Ian MacMillan and family, this home was destroyed by fire in 1979.
