\ . ..In the month of September 1873, a meeting of friends and members of the Loyal C Qrange Association of British North America was held in the station house at Sand Point. Robert Splane of Sand Point was in the chair. A.C. MacCallum of Sand Point was secretary. It was resolved unanimously to apply for a charter to the Grand Lodge to form a lodge. After the receipt of their dispensation on November 27th, 1873 the Sand Point Orange Lodge was formed. The first meeting was held in rooms above Derenzie's store. The Lodge was opened by Brother George Eady of Renfrew who was worshipful | z district master. | The following charter officers were elected:. A.C. MacCallum, W.M., A.A. Telfer, : D.M., Robert Splane, treasurer, John B. Davis, secretary. ; It was decided to meet the lst Thursday of each month in the rooms above Derenzie's | store. For some years the lodge continued to meet there, numbers and interest f increasing until the members decided to own a hall of their own. They secured the present location, the former Methodist Church on the corner of Dewar's property, which they have transformed into an attractive and comfortable meeting place. ' A large number of members from this lodge have proven their loyalty by serving | ' their king and country in two wars. Some of these men sleep in foreign soil. There has been growing desire in the community to have a women's lodge formed. On June 10th, 1947, a ladies' lodge was duly formed with 25 ladies as charter 'members. Miss M. Chapman, RWGM of Ontario East, assisted by Mrs. C. Tang, PPM, Mrs. Jean i Vernon of Ottawa and Miss Martha Craig, PM of Westboro, visited Dewar's Corners f and were assisted by Mrs. Elizabeth Eady of Renfrew together with officers from | the lodge, instituted a new LOBA lodge to be known as Victoria Sand Point No. 1133. Twenty--five members were initiated in both the orange and scarlet degrees, and the 7 following wEere elected officers; WM Mrs. Olive Sommerville, DWM Mrs. Bessie . Miss Chapman in her remarks stated this was the first lodge she had instituted 4 since becoming PCM and conveyed her greetings . | | The new LOBA lodge will hold their meetings in the LOL hall at Dewar's Corners | on the second Tuesday of each month. j RWPPM, MrS-- C.
