CELEBRATES 70th ANNIVERSARY The members of the Burgessville Women's Institute together with Past Presidents, Sieeretst7-'J?rerts11rers, former members, 4-H Homemakers Club Leaders and friends number- ing fifty-three met in the United Church Parlor on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 February 8th to celebrate their 70th Anniversary. One member present, worthy of mention, was lire. Vernon Dennis, who has been a member of' the Institute for fifty-three years. The President, Mrs. Charles Kelly, who had the honor of presiding at the 50th and 60th Anniversaries, welcomed the guests to the 70th Anniversary. As an opening thought Mrs. Kelly gave a reading "Old Friends". Following the Ode, nary'Stewart Collect, the Minutes of the last Meeting were read by Mrs. Wilbur Morley» The Roll Call was answered by re- calling, "Glimpses of' happenings of years ago". This proved to be very interesting with much reminiscing and amusing instances related. Grant smith and Mrs. Fred Buckrell rendered two duets,"iresus Brings Sweet Joy to Lie" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Miss May Dennis read a paper "Happenings of the 1930'8. The Burgessville Institute has been interested for many years in the 4-H Girls Home- making Club. .Many of these Leaders were present - Hrs. Fred Newton, Mrs. Clarence Lermon, i',iirf3o Paul Fleming, Mrs. Dray Broad, Mrs. Gordon smith, Mrs. illan Gilmour. HIS. Jetyk ( McCready, Miss May Dennis, Mrs. Lloyd Wettlaufer, Mrs. Fred Buckrell, Mrs. George Malcolm, _ miss Carolyn Malcolm, Mrs. Bill Orth, Mrs. Leslie Dickson, Mrs. Wm. Lh3se1t.ii.ne, Miss Nancy IBsseltine and Mrs. Leslie Knott. ‘Words of appreciation were expressed for their loyal support and each were presented with a rose in recognizntion of their services. Mrs. Emmerson Chant had prepared some interesting information about the Lirary, which has been one fhe Institute's main projects through the years. Mrs. Leslie Dickson, a g , member of the Library Board, gave this' report. We are proud of one of our girls, Carolyn Malcolm, who obtained I Provincial Honors, having completed the 18 uni+s. In 1969 the girls had a splended displeqr f of Needle vork at the Club Achievement Day, We try to have fun as well as having interest- ( ing progremmes stressing the educational angle. Mrs. Kelly expressed her appreciation in having the honor of representing our Institute at the 75th Anniversary Banquet in Toronto in 1971 and also being presented with a Life dembership Certificate and Badge on _ her 50th Wedding Anniversary, 1971. lure. Following the Institute Grace and God Save the Queen, the ladies assembled around the T nicely decorated fest fables, with the main table cgrrying out the Institute colors in , flowers, ribbons and candles.
