HOUSE- The first house was built east of the present one and burned before 1903. The house that was on the farm in 1903 was constructed in 9 days. It was a wooden frame building with two storeys. In 1939 the house was completely remodlled with a gable added on the north side. A veranda with a gable was built on the west side making this the front of the house. Hardwood floors were put in the lower portion. In 1972 the outside was covered with aluminum siding with angel stone at the front of the veranda. Running hot and cold water and the First Bathroom were installed in December, 1959. CROPS- Oats, corn, hay and barley have always been the main crops sown on this farm until the last twenty years - a small amount of wheat is grown, no barley. ".1 LIVESTOCK- Holstein cows, chickens, pigs and horses were kept until tractors replace the work horse. In 1956 the Holstein herd was replaced by Jerseys. In 1968 the Jersey herd was gradually replaced by Holsteins. Today only calves, beef cattle and a dairy herd are kept. Cows were milked by hand until 1937 when a milking machine was installed. Milk was sent in cans until 1959 when a bulk cooler was installed. BEES- Until 1945 bees were kept and honey was sold. MAPLE SYRUP- 200 gallons of maple syrup was made a season until 1955 when it was discontinued. WATER-. A drilled well just 8 feet south of the house was run by a wind mill and gasoline engine,unti1 1935 it was pumped by an electric motor. To this day this well has supplied all the water needed. HYDRO- Hydro was installed in 1935. TELEPHONE - The first phone was installed in 1903 but was connected only with the Helsdon farm (at that time owned by York), A party line was installed later. In 1959 a semi-private line and in 1968 a private line. ORCHARDS AND TREES- In 1906 an orchard was planted south of the house, In 1911 the evergreens along the b laneway and at the sides were planted and still remain. In 1936 a new apple orchard was planted west of the house and the west side of the laneway. The first orchard was cut down.
