xHISTORY OF MiMORIAL HALF, (CONTINUED) FROM BOOK I H 1969 On February 28, 1969, the BrownSVille Community Memorial Hall, due to the financial difficulties was taken over by the Township of) Dereham with Browns- ville Community to have the management of' it. The committee on the Hall Board at this date were tne following: Chairman - Harry Leach Secretary - Mrs. Joe Sharpe Treasurer - Mrs. Victor Buckle Members - Arthur Holland, Arthur Helsdon and Mac Holland. An invitation was extended from the present hall board to the Women's Institute to take over the management of the Hall, if they wished to. After some discussion and a question period at their regular meeting it was moved by Mrs. Keith Buchner and seconded by Mrs. Bruce Ball to accept the inVit: - ation. Subject to approval of) the present Hall Board, a board of five u. l. a. members was appointed to act with two council representatives . The board was vcr' as follows: Chairman - Mrs. Alex Riddell Secretary - hrs. mac De.nis Treasurer - Mrs. Victor Rucule Members - Mrs. Jack Richardson, Mrs. Keri McLean, Mr. Medford Clarke and Mr. Charles Allin, (Council Representatives). A new Janitor SerVice as of April lst, l969, was Maynard Kenney and Sons at a contract price of $240. payable Q20.00 monthly. I957, as well as Teen - Town dances for several years. Annual beef suppers, sponsered by the Hall Board. Annual Strawberry Socials sponsered by the Hall Board Variety nights and visiting plays, sponsered by the Hall Board, also Corn- munity Euchre parties were held in the winter months. Grants were received from the Township periodically. Special canvasses were done when extra finances were needed, one in 1964, netting 5614.30, for new furnace. In 1969, under management of the Women's Institute, the rents for the Hall were as follows: For the W. l, Meetings - $5.00 For w. I. Catering - 10.00 For dances - 25.00 Other occasions - 15.00 Some of the community activities held in the Memorial Hall were as follows: 1 Scouts and cubs held in the basement weekly. Women's Institute meetings, 2nd Tuesday Of each month Several D.V.B. Schools. C K, Hall board meetings held lst Tuesday of each month: . r . New formed Optimist Club of Brownsville and Community held in the form of a dinner meeting on Monday of each month, catered to by women's Institute.
