The roll call was to tell about your first women's institute meeting. Pennies for Friendship was one penny for every year you have been a member. A tasty lunch of fancy sandwiches, birthday cake (made by Tina Claerbout Arthur) and hot apple cider was enjoyed. Courtesy remarks were given by Carol Miller. Browns Euchre Night was February 14 on Valentine's Day. Winners were as follows: Ladies High, le? Oliver; Ladies' Lone Hands, Carol Herbert; Ladies Low, Betty Barons. Men's High, Earnest Oliver; Men's Lone Hands, John MacDonald; Men's Low, Terry Barber. Door prizes were won by Jean Sims and Allan Sims. The organization spread to Great Britain in 1915 and then developed into the Associated Country Women of the World. The Sandringham Branch involves the Queen and other members of the Royal Family. A contest involving the accomplishments of the Women's Institutes was won by Ruth Gill and Evelyn Arthur. In the final comments, Irene Richardson shared what Women's Institute had meant to her. Knowledge of parliamentary procedure, increased self confidence and the ability to express one's selfin the public were only a few. The program had been prepared by Liz Harrison, Irene Richardson, Joyce West and Judy Taylor and it was a birthday party to celebrate the 111th anniver- sary of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario. A display of Women's Institute memorabilia was fea- tured. The minutes of the first Women's Institute meeting, held in Stoney Creek on February 19, 1897, were read. Facts about Adelaide Hoodless were shared. The Browns Women's Institute held their regular monthly meeting at Browns School with a good atten- dance. Business was conducted by president Evelyn Douglas., The Mary Stewart Collect was repeated and the Institute Ode was sung. Updates were given on the Day Away, Health Fair, Western Fair Display, the Provincial Workshops and the Provincial Competitions.
