What a beautiful sound, when everyone sung the Women‘s Institute grace! __ Helen Piett, a member for over 50 years conducted an In Memorial Service for all the deceased members. President Marilyn Herman opened the celebrations by leading the reciting of the Mary Stewart Collect and the singing of the Institute Ode. On January 26, 2013 Brooksâ€" dale Women‘s Institute celebrated their success of 90 years of service for "Home and Country" with a catered luncheon by Nancy A. Hazeleger at the St. Andrew‘s United Church in Brooksdale. Fortyâ€"two ladies â€" current members, past members and members from neighbouring branches (Braemar, Browns, Lakeside and Princess Elizabeth) celebrated the milestone of the branch‘s history. Brooksdale Women‘s Institute celebrates 90th year of service Was supper cooking in their ovens when 106 ladies from the Brooksdalé area gathered together on December 14, 1922 at Baillies‘ Hall in Brooksdale to form the Brooksdale Women‘s Institute? The answer is probably yes â€" the microwave or crock pot wasn‘t invented yet. The theme for her presentation was "I Choose You" and she stressed the fact that we all can choose no matter what the situation is or \Chairperson Anne Innes, who is also branch curator of the Tweedsmuir history, read the certificate received from Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman. She also thanked committee members Marlene Matheson, Ruth Matheson and Helen Piett for their volunteer time. London Area President Sheila Greason and Oxford District President Margaret Ogar brought greetings. Sheila Greason noted that many of the Brooksdale members have served on the executive of Oxford District, London Area and the Federated Women‘s Institute of Ontario. Mayor of Zorra Margaret Lupton, who is a member of Brooksdale W.I., presented her branch with a certificate from the township. She cherishes the knowledge gained and friendships made over the years as a branch member. (avâ€"Gaz eA Jan.33, The community was invited to view the Brooksdale W.L. Tweedsmuir history books from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. These books record local social history of the Brooksdale area. Curator Anne Innes favourite quote from Canadian War Museum "History is not just the story you read, it is the one you write."It is one reason why Tweedsmuir History Books are valuable. She acknowledged the work of the previous curators for their volunteer service in preserving history for future generations to treasure.
