When church union became a fact, the members of Knox Church, Beamsviue, who desired to remain Presbyterian, withdrew and formed a minority group in the continuing Presbyterian Church. Two of the elders of Knox withdrew viz Mum-c On June 21st, 1925 a deputation from this minority group, viz, Messrs. W. R. Logan, J. A. Book and John Ritchie, presented their case before the Presbytery of Hamilton. Dr. S. St. Andrew's Bums Mortgage Jn 21tt Agniversary Celebration Rented L0.0.F. Hall They were, of course, without a church home, and they worshipped for a few Sundays in the Community Hall. Then they rented the I.0.0.F. Temple on Queen St. which was foLmely .a Disciple Church. The ’first cornmunion was held oni July 5th, 1925, conducted by Rev. Dan Drummond, D.D. of St. Paul's, Ham- ilton, who was assisted by Messrs. D. B. Dewar and Geo. Ingles, elders from Hamilton. A Communion Roll ‘was established with 89 names en- rolled. This roll was increased-to 116 by February 10th, 1926. 129 p,artook . of Communion that day as guests also , were present. _ DITOR’S NOTE.. Reprints will be available at The Expreu office. 'T-e-" W, "St. Andrew's" Chosen On August lst, 1925 an organization meeting was held when they chose the name of St. Andrew's. Messrs. John Ritchie and Abram Eater were ordained elders, who with Messrs. W. R. Logan and John A. Book con- stituted the first Session. A Board df Managers was elected as follows: Messrs. Jas. Steven (chairman), E. B, Osborne (Sec.-Treas0, Chas. Reid (Assistant Sec.-Treas.), John Mowat, Geo. Konklg, l. Jr Walker, Rs, P, up-.. The question re the division oil church property was taken before "The Dominion Commission on! Church Property." Their decision, of course, under "The Dominion Church Union Act," was final. They gave $5000.00 of the Morrow Endowment of Knox Church to St. Andrew's. Boy Scouts Organised The pulpit was supplied for a time by visiting ministers, among whom was Rev. John A. Mustard of Toron- Ito and Rev. Mr. Quinn of Beamsville' also rendered service. A lay-worker, .Mr. Hamilton, took charge of the work for a short time. Mr. G. S, Hamilton was very much interested lin 'boys work' and with others as- :sited in organizing the Boy Scout gMovcment in Beamsville. Greves, Taylor. iris'. j'ohkatonr and Allan Second Beamsville church to burn a mort- gage within a week was the Calvary Gospel Church, which held a service of thanksgiving and burned the note on Monday, June 24. The mortgage for $1,000 was taken out in 1939 when the. congregation purchased its present building. Shown above during the ceremony Calvary Church Debtmifg Completely Cancelled A full congregation attended Cal- vary Gospel Church Monday night for special services which included a mortgage-burning ceremony, marking the last payment of the church's debt. Rev. David Benson, pastor of Cal- vary Church, presided at the service which featured special musical num- bers and was addressed by Rev. Peter Hoogendam, BA., Th.B., pastor of Philpott Tabernacle, Hamilton, and president of the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada. Musical numbers were contributed by Pauls Brothers Quartet, Hamilton, and the Mennonite Brethren Male Chorus of 25 voices, of Vineland. Took Part In Ceremony The service opened with singing of the hymn, "A Firmer Foundation Ye Saints Of The Lord," followed by prayer by Mr. Benson. The pastor then presided at the burning of the mortgage, Mr. R. deMontmorency, one of the founders of the group in Beams- ville and secretary-treasurer for the past 16 years, gave a brief history of the church to the congregation. Mr. Keown, a member of the board, pre- sented a short address. 3fiss Marg- uerite Lightle and Mrs. David Ben- son held a tray on which the mort- gage document was burned. Frank Keown and William Cartmer, who celebrated his 95th birthday a few weeks ago, lighted the paper at both ends. The congregation then arose and_sang the Doxology.
