The ‘regular Castleton Friendship club meeting was held on Monday, Aug 24 with 44 present. Tables were moved into place and arangemenls made ready for the displays which would arrive Saturday morning. And arrive they didl Over 250 exhibits shown by 26 avid gardeners. About 90 lucky people decided to visit Castleton town - Pt tu..-.).. “A dcclueu u.- up“ '__-- hall for the Colbome and Dtstrlct Garden Club's annual Summer Flower Show and tea on August 15. _, am" In iJo""5'"" --r Our annual show in Castleton gets bigger and better each year thanks to many hard-working members from the area and the continuing support and interest shown by neighborhood residents. Ken Bellamy; man low- Nina Fisher. Our convenors were Irene Osborne and Myrtle Ducle. who worked hard to see that everything ran smoothly. Our judges. Glen and Lois Bennett, found quite a challenge to come up with prize winners in each category (93 classes) but choices were made and ready for public viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. As usual there was a beautiful display of color. shape and perfume. The glads were on one table, the iehgth of the hall, and unbelievably beautiful. We are very proud of our glad growers who give us a display that would be hard to match anywhere in quality of blooms. Of course, we all wait anxiously for the auction after the show and a chance to take home these lovely prize- winners. The dahllas and all other summer flowers were also well -Madrrie Allen Cousokug mac/wow glue 2,5777, shown and lovely. Arrangements. baskets of glads were sheer delight; plants in containers and individual varieties were all attractive. Not to be outdone, the "veggies" were arranged across the front of the hall and drew a lot of attention and praise. Despite unkind weather. nasty bugs, etc., our growers come up with gorgeous nowers, vegetables and arrangements which must take hours of work and we can only look on in awe and thank God for creating gardeners! The show was a lovely setting for our tea tables where guests could enjoy sandwiches, squares. tea and coffee and take time to chat and exchange gardening tips.
