- This Cenotaph to honour World War 1 soldiers "who paid the supreme sacrifice" was erected in 1920. It is located on the south side of County Road 25 at the southeast corner of Spring and Norway Streets east of the main Castleton ”downtown” intersection of County Roads 21 and 25.

Private F.C. Richards June 2 1916.
Under “Died of Wounds”, are the names:

Private Walter Morgan Sept. 15 1917;

The Castleton Women’s Institute (W.I.) was the fund-raiser and driving force for this memorial. There were plays, teas and many other community events organized by the W.I. The words “Erected by the Municipality Cramahe and Castleton W.I.” are engraved on the front.
