The Northern Area Women‘s Institute Convention was held at the Friendly Circle Hall, South River, Ontario, on September 30th. 2006. It was hosted by the Parry Sound Women‘s Institute. Registration began at 9.00am: At 9330 Florence Kirkham opened the meeting with the singing of O‘Canada, followed by the Women‘s Institute Ode, Mary Stewart Collect.A call for the names of all the deceased members was asked for: followed by one minute of silence. Emsdale/Scotia one member â€"â€"â€"Sheila Prichara. Dwight; associate member Nora Huyck, who was a former member of Magnet#awan Branch. Janice Bray thanked everyone for coming and all the work everyone had done.Janice introduced Susan Arnold from the South River Council. Susan welcomed everyone to South River, she spoke of fond memories of W.I., she told about a hand knit cover the W.I., had given to her dad and how pleased he was to get it. Tony Clements was to speak at 10.00am. but was given the wrong address , Janice Bray went to look for him. He stated the W.I. started in 1897 , and played an important role then, he also stated that the w.I. still plays an important role in todays Society. things back then were OK, but we have changed with the times. Tony made a presentation to each Branch , of a portrait of the Queen, and a large National Flag. All Branch present received these.The Branches closest to those absent, took theirs to.give them later. All the Branches held up their Flags and Portrait for pictures.
