r 4 Northern Area Women‘s Institute Convention Saturday, October 2, 2010 The Northern Area Women‘s Institute Convention was held Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Windermere House Resort hosted by the Muskoka District. Registration began at 9:30a.m. with coffee and muffins being served. The meeting was called to order at 10a.m. by Area President Janice Bray. Susan Goltz of Muskoka District, Windermere Branch welcomed everyone to the convention and thanked Jeff Brown of Windermere House for helping to organize the event. President Janice Bray welcomed everyone and we sang O Canada, the Women‘s Institute Ode and said the Mary Stewart Collect. Roll Call: Dwight 10, Glen Orchard 4, Windermere 17, Chisholm 0 (sent regrets), Phelps 4, Trout Mills 5, Bloomfield 3, Dunchurch 1, Emsdaleâ€"Scotia 0. We had a minute of silence for deceased member, Norma MacFarland. Business Meeting: The minutes of the last convention were read by Secretary Faye Reaume and errors were corrected. A motion to approve as corrected was made by Molly Morris and seconded by Florence Kirkham. Carried. The financial report was read and a motion that the report be accepted as read by Faye Reaume, seconded by Doreen Jennings. Carried. Business arising from the minutes: Increasing the District scholarship donation from $85 to $167. Nipissing District approved, Muskoka District approved, Parry Sound District did not approve. Motion: That we raise the District donation for the Nipissing University Scholarship fund to $167 for one year. Moved by Florence Kirkham, seconded by Joyce Lavi gne, Carried. Motion: That the fees remain at $2 per member. Moved by Joyce Lavigne, seconded by Barb Dutton, carried. Motion: That the mileage remain at $.30/kilometer. Moved by Carol Miller, seconded by Joyce Lavigne, carried. Correspondence: FWIO President Carol Innes sent her regrets that she could not attend. Our FWIO board member Joyce Nelson sent her regrets that she could not attend. Erland Lee Museum sent a report of their activities. A letter from FWIO President Carol Innes regarding the OSG project for digitizing our Tweedsmuir histories, a discussion was held and Janice Bray will respond to the letter. We need to get more information from the Peterborough District who is going through this process now. A copy of this letter is to be given to each of our Districts to discuss at their meeting and bring back to the 2011 convention. New Business: Beth Harris read the FWIO President‘s message from Carol Innes. Motion: that we elect a scholarship representative for a 3 year term. Responsibilities: to attend area executive meetings, get paid mileage, provide original photos and letters for our Area Tweedsmulir, attend Nipissing University convocation in J anuary or arrange an alternate. Moved by Marilyn Bishop, seconded by Beth Harris, carried. A discussion was held about having our convention in a central location. It was decided to leave the location up to the hosting district where the convention is to be held.
