The community of Island Falls not being a farming one, the study of . Agriculture was devoted to products of local interest - flower, bulb and vegetable culture were outstanding. . Pesticides useful in local gardening and lawn beautification were tried. [ In April 191.1, the Agricultural representative from Cochrano was invited to show lantern slides on potato culture. _ In 191.7, the organization as a group Joined the Canadian Association of Consumers. In 1950 the club became a member of the Agricultural Society in Cochrsne in order to present an exhibit at the Fall Fair. _ Throughout the years pamphlets were obtained from the Dept. of Agriculture ret flowers, vegetables, pest control and canning. These were distributed among the members. With regard to Can. Industries, papers were read on the diverse production of our provinces with special attention given to development of electricity which is produced in Island Falls. (b) Citizenship and Education [ Government was studied under the, following titles: Parliamentary men, _ 1lettrounduaittg entry; laws for women, Mother's Allowance, making a will, 01d ago pensions, the citizenship act. I New Canadians from our camp and from the neighbouring lumber camp were invited to our meetings and to our social affairs. During the war the local institute purchased a. "Roll of honor" to l be displayed In the Community Hall. Names of local men who were in T the services were listed. I; Canada's war effort was brought to the fore and the progress and i _.- _ needs of our allies studied. I 3 Regarding education, Canadian authors, poets and artists were 1 studied. The local group eo-operated In having the Northern Academy at 8 Montieth re-opened.
