' 2. The Townsite is located approximately 45 miles northeast of Timmins . City Centre and the two neighbourhoods are south and west of the Townsite (Map 1). The Communities of Porquis Junction and Monteith were settled in the . early 1900‘s, the former as a railroad settlement for Ontario Northland ’ Railways, the latter to provide accommodation and services for people involved with the provincial experimental farm at Monteith. From 1909 to 1947, these 2 communities were part of the unorganized townships in A the District of Cochrane but in 1947 they were annexed to the then Township of Calvert, one of the 2 organized municipalities in the area. i In 1969, the Muhicipa]ity of the Township of Calvert and the Muniâ€" 1 cipality of the Town of Iroquois Falls amaigamated to form the Municipality of the Town of Iroquois Falls as presently constituted. 2.2 __ Neighbourhoods Eligible In order for a Municipality to be eligible to participate in the NIP it must have eligible Neighbourhoods within its boundaries. As is demonstrated in Parts II and III of this document, the Town of Iroquois Falls has at least two neighbourhoods, Porquis Junction and Monteith, that are eligible for participation in the NIP. Details of this eligibility . will be given in Parts II and III of this document. (There are several : other neighbourhoods which may also be eligible but Council has decided not to apply for participation in the NIP for these areas at the present time. The details of the neighbourhood selection are set out in Section 3 of Part I of this document). 2.3 Official Plan The Town of Iroquois Falls has in effect an Official Plan prepared - by the Town of Iroquois Falls Planning Board and recommended to Council J for adoption on February 21, 1975, adopted by Councilon May 15, 1972
