THE NEIGHBOURKOOD _ IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM The Neighbourhood Improvement Program (NIP) was established by Amendment to j the National Housing Act passed in June of 1973 and is a Joint Federalâ€" Provincialâ€"Municipal undertaking. In Ontario the Program is the responsiâ€" bility of the Community Renewal Branch (CRB) of the Ministry of Housing and ‘ of the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The Program is designed to provide for the establishment or renewal of Community Services and Facilities within eligible neighbourhoods. It also ‘ makes dwellings within NIP areas eligible for the Residential Rehabilitation ' Assistance Program (RRAP). ' The program is funded 25% by the Provincial Government with the balance being shared by the Federal Government and the Municipality on a 25%â€"50% basis with the assignment of the shared costs depending on the part of the program being undertaken. The NIP provides a complete Community Renewal approach to all parts of the Community Fabric and is designed to make existing residential areas more pleasant and more efficient for their residents. | 2. MUNICIPAL ELIGIBILITY . Municipalities are eligible to participate in the Neighbourhood Improvement Program in accordance with the following criteria. As will be seen, the Town clearly meets these criteria and is therefore eligible to participate in the NIP. 2.1 The Town of Iroquois Falls The Town of Iroquois Falls comprises the Townsite of Iroquois Falls, the Hamlets of Porquis Junction and Monteith and 7 geographic Townâ€" ships including farms, resort areas and forestry and mining operations.
