John Buchan. He was educated at Glascow University and at : 2 Brasenose Coliege, Oxforda. He was calied to the Bar in L901, and in the same z ’ 5 year became high commissioner for South Africa. He was a member of Parliament : for the Scottish Universities from 1927 â€" 1935, when he was appointed Gov. Gen. z : of Canada, and was raised to the Peerage taking the title of Baron Tweedsmuir. z z He was an author of a number of biographies and historical works. He wrote a z : history of the Great War (1921 â€" 1922) and as a novelist he was known for such : : brilliant tales of Adventure as ‘Green Mantle‘ and Mr. Standfast‘. z : Lady Tweedsmuir, his wife, also wrote many plays, childrens‘ books 2 :: and reminiscences. Lady Tweedsmuir was an ardent W. I. member in England, and z | : she advised that our organization across Canada compiie the histories of our z : local communities and villages. z : Lord Tweedsmuir died in Montreal on February ll1th, 1940 and Lady i z Tweedsmuir returned to Engiand. They had been loved by the Canadian people. z Z He bequeathed his library to Queen‘s University at Kingston, Ontario. : : Lady Tweedsmuir died in March 1977. A memorial service was held on z Z Sunday June 5th, at St. Andrew‘s Presbyterian Church, Ottawa.
