April 2016 lofl The Muskrat Lake Telephone Association A meeting was held at the home of James Childerhose February 27, 1913 to organize a telephone system in the local area. That group established the Muskrat Lake Telephone Co. Ltd. The first officers were: W.H. Collins, President Arthur Collins, Secretary â€"Treasurer The directors were: James Childerhose Armour Johnston John McGinn Archie Collins A telephone system was established later in 1913 and in 1916 was incorporated into a company serving 19 share holders along the Lake Road & other adjoining roads, a distance of 9 1/3 miles. Switching was done at Cobden by the Bell Telephone Company for a fee of $4.00 a year. This as well as an additional $4.00 flat rate to carry the company was the shareholder cost for many years. In 1960, the "Muskrat Lake Telephone Association" sold to the Bell Telephone Company and the dial system was installed in the area. q
