Page 4+ LORD AND LADY TWEEDSMUIR j Lord Tweedsmuir (John Buchanan), the son of Reverend John Buchanan, was born in Scotland, August 25th, 19875. $ He was called tothe Bar in 1901 and from 1927 to 1935 he was a member of British House of Commons for Scotish ‘ Universities. In 19375 he was titled "Baron Tweedsmuir" and from 1935 to 1940 was Governor General of Canada. 3 He’was author of a number of biographies and historical works: Sir Walter Raleigh; Sir Walter Seott; Julius Caesar; Oliver Cromwell; The Massacre of Glencoe; The King‘s Grace; etc. "Memory Hold Theâ€"Door" was his autohbiography and one of his latest works. I John Buchanan, the first Lord Tweedsmuir, died in Montreal on February l1th, 19%0. His library was bequeathâ€", ed to Queen‘s University, Kingston, Ontario. Lady Tweedsmuir, Susan, wife of our beloved Governor General, has written many plays, children‘s books and remâ€" iniscences,. She was~an ardent Women‘s Institute member in England and was made an Honorary Life Member of F.W.I.O0. She advocated that our organization, across Canada, compile the histories of our local communities and villages. Lady Tweedsmuir returned to England following the death of her husband and is still residing there (1962).
