Introduction | In presenting this little volume of history to members and friends of Renfrew South Women‘s Institutes, sincere tribute must be paid to the late Mrs. S. G. Wilson of Arnprior. A past district president, area secretary, and provincial board director, Mrs. Wilson put her whole heart and keen mind into everything she did in connection with Women‘s Institute work. Her interest in historical research was no exâ€" ception, and it was one of her fondest dreams that the accomplishments \ of each and every branch, and the district as a whole, should one day be compiled into a bookiet which all might read and treasure. f That her deeplyâ€"loved task had to be laid down before its comâ€" ‘ pletion was a matter of heartfelt regret to all who knew her. Hence it has been with some reluctance and a sense of humility that the present ‘ historical committee accepted the responsibility of finishing a work so ‘ well begun. ‘ The task has not been an easy one. So many details of rich hisâ€" torical lore and worthy achievement have been lost through inadequate records, or no records at all. So many of those revered Women‘s Institute pioneers have also, in their turn, been called by death. ‘ But we, as your editorial committee, have done our best to build ‘ on the foundation so well laid by Edith Wilson. And in so doing we extend warm thanks to all Women‘s Institute members and others who have assisted so willingly, both in research and in writing. ___To Luey Mullin, our earliest living past president, who assisted Edith Wilson a great deal in the first assembling of district material, and with whose thoughtful foreword we are happy to begin our booklet; to Do_ris Humphries, one of the talented younger members, whose beautiful and moving tribute will be found at its close; to the writers of the many splendid stories in the pages between, including the nineteen branch histories; to those who have kindly and painstakingly searched through trunks and albums for pictures of both past and presentâ€" grateful appreciation is forthcoming. r‘ Last, but not least, sincere thanks are due the editor and staff of | The Renfrew Advance. whose neverâ€"failing patience and coâ€"operation ‘ have helped immeasurably in the compiling and printing of this booklet. : MARGARET HAMILTON (EDITOR) AGNES HENDERSON FRANCES STEWART RUBY MILLER Page 2 OM D0 0
