~ T while survey was made by the Department of Health Toronto, reâ€" vealing the facts that Renfrew County had over 50,000 populaâ€" tion with only twentyâ€"nine doctors residents within the county, or ho an average of one doctor for every 1,700 population. The survey i showed too the great need for immunization against communiâ€" cable diseases. The estimated cost of a County Health Unit | being established would be $64,000 which would include 2 doctors, 17 nurses, 3 sanitary inspectors, additional. medical services, * transportation, administration, ete. This cost would be defrayed | by a Provincial Government Grant of 50 per cent., leaving 32,000 to be levied by the County. This would entail a tax rate of 114 mills, but the present time reported cost of health services within the municipalities would be saved if the new plan was adopted. The committee of the County Council in 1945 went on record as being in favour of a Health Unit, yet after debate the whole issue was left over until some future date. In 1946â€"47, under the convenership of Mrs. Leslie Davis, President of North Renfrew, and Mrs. S. G. Wilson, President of South Renfrew, the matter was brought up again. Copies of the Survey was sent to all Institutes in North and South Renfrew. f Resolutions were duly passed by the branch institutes that the 1 County W.I. go on record as to the setting up of County Health | Unit. Coâ€"operation was received from the Federation of Agriâ€" { culture, Kiwanis Club, Pembroke, and various other service clubs, such as the Rotary and Lions Clubs of other villages. Public meetings were held with our Members of Parliament and Miss Moore, Chief Public Health Nurse, and Dr. R. G. Struthers of Department of Health, in attendance. The survey was printed in the local papers. Articles were written for the press in explanâ€" i 2 ation of a Unit and the success of a unit in other counties. 1 The County Council was approached twice in 1947 â€" Mrs. ‘ ( Leslie Davis and Mrs. S. Mr. Trail, technician of Cottage Hospital, and Mr. Murray Williams K.C., represented the Kiwanis Club, Pembroke. Dr. R. G.
