August 2002 Only four members were able to take the summer trip. Irene, Cindy, Eleanor W and Hazel went to Oftawa with Eleanor as driver. They enjoyed a guided tour on the Rideau Canal viewing the Parliament Buildings, Museum of Civilization, Nepean Point, Nationa!l Gallery of Canada, Supreme Court, Royal Canadian Mint, Prime Minister‘s Residence, RCMP Musical Ride Visitor‘s Centre and other spots of interest. They watched boats go through the tlocks, shopped and dined out after a tour driving around the same spots. It was a very enjoyable day. September 2002 Topic: Education. Eleanor gave facts on Food safety and safe food handling from many pamphlets. We heard facts on eggs; nutritional value and proper storage. Eleanor was convenor of Quilt, Craft Show and Luncheon at Rural Ramble in Cobden on September 28, 29. Our members donated food, crafts and quilts and worked. October 2002 October was a very busy month. October 7, Gwen and Eleanor attended the Area Convention â€" at Almonte. On October 16, we entertained and catered to the Birthday at Country Haven Retirement home in the afternoon. We were invited to Forester‘s Falls WI for dinner and evening that same day. On October 17 we entertained Snake River WI at our meeting at St. Andrew‘s United Church. President Margaret Ann Griffith spoke on her trip to Conference at Sault Ste. Marie. Eleanor Wright spoke on Health Issues; Cardio Vascular disease, prevention, and control of risk factors. She talked on stress and warning signs of angina, and heart disease. She explained the function of the heart and blood vessels. We enjoyed a great potluck dinner but were disappointed only five visitors came. November 2002 Topic: Citizenship. Cindy spoke on rights and responsibilities of Canadian Citizenship and read the oath of Citizenship; 200 questions on study guide for a test to become a citizen of Canada. One responsibility is to help others in our community. We had to write volunteers we knew and their work. The list was long including most of us. There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer. We had a cookie exchange. Motto: The world is like a mirror; reflecting what you do. On November 25 we attended a WI workshop on Ovarian Cancer led by the Education Committee in Cobden. December 2002 Topic: Goodwill. We held our Christmas meeting at the home of Eleanor Wright with an open program. Items were donated to Bernadette McCann House. Three treat boxes were packed and delivered to Bill and Gwen Ashley, Elvira and Art Monk and Elmer and Hazel Hawthorne. Gift Exchange. Motto: Home is where the heart is!
