Laurentian View Institute Branch History Continued from Volume II April 2001 Our Annual meeting was held at the home of Joyce Boldt in Cobden. Motto: An Institute is like a ship â€" everyone should take a turn at the wheel. Roll Call: Name a country that is a member of ACVW. Bring an item of interest about ACVVW. Members read interesting articles on ACVWW countries. Pennies were paid: $.05 for each letter in ACWW. Much time was spent on finalizing details for our 50 Anniversary to be held in May. May 2001 All our members worked hard to plan our 50 Anniversary. We held our celebration in St. Andrew‘s United Church Hall on May 17, 2001. Ninety guests, members of Branches in our District and honoured ones enjoyed a delicious salad dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tables were beautifully decorated in WI colours. Eleanor McLaughlin chaired the event. Charter members Gwen Kidd and Irene Kenney received 50â€"year pins, Eleanor a 30 year pin, Hazel a 25 year pin, and Joan a 10 year pin. Hazel and Irene conducted a Memorial service to remember our 17 deceased members by placing a carnation as each name was called. Names of 20 past members were recognized and 7 attended. Greetings were given by FWIO President Christine Reaburn, Susan de Hann, District President, and Peggy McLeod, District â€" Treasurer. Gwen Kidd read an interesting humourous account of 50â€"Year Highlights of our Branch. Reeve of Whitewater Region Gordon White gave congratulations and presented a certificate of recognition for our contributions to our community. Jean Robinson sang some delightful pieces accompanied by Lorna Stevenson. Door prizes were drawn during the evening. Guest Speaker Christine Reaburn spoke on her travels throughout Ontario as President. She had attended conferences in Kansas, New Zealand and South Africa. We were very pleased with our accomplishment of hosting such a wonderful evening. Some members attended the District Annual in Cobden. June 2001 Our Grandmother‘s meeting was held at the home of Cindy Price. Family wedding pictures were viewed with interest. Members contributed to the program. Items for Fairs were collected. August 2001 Topic: Business and Industry: Our ladies visited Cathy Timm for a demonstration on her quilting machine. She informed us of various materials, batts, thread, patterns and samples. We each had a try guiding the machine then toured her beautiful home full of items of her talent.
