8 & v. _ w ILLIan DBav Tss isftâ€" l9r% Rev, W. Davies was born and educated in Wales where he held prominent pastorates prior to accepting a call to Scranton, Penn. He served overseas with the U. 3. Army Chaplain Corps during the first World War,. He accepted a call to Woodville in 1921 and remained until 1926. Later, he became the first pastor of Dewi Sant Welsh church in Toronto. He passed away in 1930. Mr. and Mrs, Davies had six children, one of whom became the Venerable Archdeacon M. C. Davies, and was at one time Speaker of the Ontario legislature. A daughter, Gwyneth, married TIan Mackay a member of Knox congregation. R &v. &. 8189 so n 1926 â€" 1931 Rev, Robert Simpson was born in Fife, Scotland. While studying in Glasgow he was influenced by the Superintendent of Missions to come to Canada. He came in 1900 and had missions in Alberta. On completion of his studies at Manitoba College, he and his wife set off for the Peace River District by wagon train,. At Spirit River they built a log house which was to serve as church and manse â€" the first Presbyterian mission among prospectors in the area. They were recalled in 1905 when lack of funds brought an abrupt end to the outpost work before it had well begun, Then followed ministries in British Columbia and southern Alberta. In 1913 the family moved to Ontario and in 1926 Mr. Simpson was called to Woodville. Failing health caused him to retire to his home in Brooklin. MacKay was born in Lorne Valley, P.E.I., attended public school there, and later Prince of Wales College in Charlottetom, Queen‘s University Kingston and Knox College Toronto. He accepted a call to Knox Church Woodville after his graduation in 1932 and remained there for 12 years. In 1955 he was stricken with a heart attack which proved fatal. He left a widow, a son and a daughter.
