Instead of sending a demonstrator to each Branch for courses, training schools for leaders were instituted, the two members from each Branch returning and teaching the work to their own Branch. Such courses as glove making, lamp shades, hats, rug hooking, and cooking classes were covered at various times. In 1960 a very successful Christmas Bazaar and Tea was held in the Town Hall. An . electric range was purchased for the W.I. kitchen in the Town Hall. Coupons from Canada Packers products were saved by members and a coffee urn and 3 linen table cloths secured as premiums. The kitchen was remodelled with cupboards built in. 1961â€"1965 1961â€"1962 â€" Chief items of interest â€" Pennies for Friendship were given at the District Annual, a Lawn Social was held on the "Point". Our Branch shared in providing free tea and cookies and in working at the District Booth at Kingston Fall Fair. A canteen was opened in the kitchen during Swim Tests at the Point and proceeds given to the expenses of the Safety Course. 4&A booth was run at the Farmers‘ Twilight meeting. Expenses of the electric range for the W.I. kitchen were shared, 1/3 each, by the W.I., Lions, and Board of Trade. In place of the Water carnival the Board of Trade put on a chicken barbeque on the Point and went half and half with the W.I. In October, 1961, the Sydenham W.I. became joint sponsors with Harrowsmith W.I. in supporting a child in a foreign country at a cost of $30 each. This is still being done in 1968. Battersea and Glenburnie Institutes were entertained at a pot luck supper. A Board of Trade banquet was catered to. Drapery material was purchased and made up for the windows of the Town Hall, which . had been newly reâ€"decorated. The chief way of raising money now became catering to small banquets of 70 or less, especially the Lions‘ monthly supper. 4 20
